About

Tucan Riot is a female/ non-binary identifying international theatre ensemble. We make physical theatre/ clown theatre with intersectional social and political elements.

Our work is devised and  very often draws on biographical elements, creating work that is both serious and hilarious.

Our last show, NO WAY OUT, was performed at CPT London, Ballhaus Ost Berlin and Alytus Teatras in Lithuania, where we were obtained the best show award at the COM*MO*NA FESTIVAL in 2019.

Our current show NOMAD premiered in November 22 at Oyoun Berlin and played at the Kulturelle Landpartie Festival in Niedersachsen and It will have its UK premiere at Summerhall for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 23.

    NO WAY OUT

    NO WAY OUT

NOMAD is a biographic physical theatre performance centred in the experiences of Ayşe, a Turkish female immigrant in Europe. Tender and funny, it explores migration through the point of view of three characters - Ayşe, the heroine, and two institutional monsters, Eric (policeman/immigration officer) and the Paper Creature (and absurd embodiment of bureaucracy). Whether work, marriage or refuge is the reason for migration, the period of waiting administrative limbo – which can last years – and the bureaucratic encounters that become the shared experience of all migrants. Based in Gözde’s own journey as an immigrant in Europe.

    NO WAY OUT

    ABUELAS/ ANCESTRY

The performance ‘1989’ is a crossover of our artistic stage expertise. It is built upon movements of different oral, literary, visual, narrative, embodied and play matrixes. We interchangeably move within these matrixes as we move along the story. From not-acting, not pretending to be in a time and space different than members of the audience, not feigning, impersonating, simulating to be nobody nothing than ourselves in relation to the story. CUT.

How could we have a meaningful conversation on a stage in the so-called “first world” about countries in crisis?
